Oil Patch Warrior Dukes Wood

Oil Patch Warrior Dukes Wood

Dukes Wood - just outside Eakring and a short deviation from the Farnsfield walk, is a marvellous example of cooperation between the Oil industry and the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust. It is the site of the UK’s first oilfield and is currently being reaassed for further oil deposits.
Some of the ‘nodding donkey’ pumps have been restored and there is also a bronze statue of the The Oil Patch Warrior, commemorating the American 'Roughnecks of Sherwood Forest'. The 7ft high statue was commissioned by The International Society of Energy Advocates and produced by Jay O'Melia.

The land was donated to the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust in 1989 by British Petroleum and is a haven for many types of wildlife.
